Biography and Press

Clarinetist Gloria Orozco Dorado, born and raised in Colombia, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States, Colombia, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Ireland. Recently, Gloria received two awards at ClarinetFest 2024: first place in the Research Competition and second place in the Orchestral Audition Competition.


Gloria has been a concerto soloist with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the Northeastern Illinois University Orchestra, and the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble. She has also performed with ensembles such as the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Arizona Wind Quintet, and the 2015 World Youth Wind Orchestra.


As a founding member of Q'iru Duet, a Chilean-Colombian guitar and clarinet duo specializing in Latin American music, Gloria has performed at International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest Conferences in Ireland (2024), Denver (2023), and Reno (2022). Additionally, Gloria is a founding member of ClarINÉS Cuarteto de Clarinetes, which won the 2015 National Contest "Luis Ángel Arango" held by the Colombian Republican Bank.


In 2016, Gloria initiated the Soplan Vientos de Paz (Winds of Peace are Blowing) annual project, offering private and group clarinet lessons and raising resources to donate musical equipment to underprivileged communities affected by long-term civil conflict in Cauca, Colombia, and isolated regions of the Colombian and Brazilian Amazonia. 


Gloria holds degrees from Universidad del Cauca, Northeastern Illinois University, and Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. She is currently in her final year as a doctoral student at the University of Arizona, studying under Dr. Jackie Glazier with the support of the University Fellows Award, “a prestigious fellowship offered only to UArizona's highest-ranked incoming graduate students.”
